Recent Studies on Cooperative Phenomena between Magnetics and Optics Since Michael Faraday discovered the rotation of the plane of polarized light in a magnetic field, magneto-optical effects are used to realize Kerr effect microscopes, optical isolators and magneto-optical disks. Recently, interaction between magnetics and optics enables to control magnetization by photons as well as controlling optical properties by magnetization, and we are concerned with new cooperative phenomena and devices such as metamaterials, nanoparticles, spin injection and detection in spin-LED, and manipulation of magnetization by light.
