The 229th Topical Symposium of the Magnetic Society of Japan
Present status and perspective of spintronics research in terahertz region
In general, generation and detection of the terahertz (0.1 to 10 THz) signal are very difficult, because the region is boundary between radio-waves and light-waves. However, this region corresponds to excitation frequencies such as phonon, plasmon, magnon, and rotation of molecules, therefore very interesting phenomena should be lurking, which is important for the development of novel functionality. Recently, also in the field of magnetism research, ultrafast magnetization control (~10 ps) using picosecond pulses and terahertz magnetization dynamics using antiferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic materials have been reported. In this symposium, we invite five outstanding lecturers who are engaged in the studies of terahertz region in the magnetic research field. We expect your active participation.
