The 135th Topical Symposium of the Magnetics Society of Japan
Recent Progress of Perpendicular Magnetic Recording and Future Forecast
With the progress of recording density and storage capacity, Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is expanding its application not only in computer storage area but also in consumer market. However, the development of higher density technology is much challenging to overcome fundamental limits such as superparamagnetic limit and atomic level low flying height and hence annual growth rate decelerates. Under this situation, benefit of changing to Perpendicular Recording becomes significant and its entry in the market is driven by the marketfs high density requirements. In this symposium, a progress of recent Perpendicular Recording technology in media, head and drive areas are reported by representative researchers. We appreciate a participation of researcher and engineer in various fields.
