Inagural address

Yashushi TAKEMURA

Yasushi TAKEMURA  Yokohama National University

I am greatly honored to have been elected as President of the Magnetics Society of Japan (MSJ) for the 2023-2024 term. When I think about the history and tradition of this society, which was established in 1977, I feel humbled for the responsibility of this position.

Last year, the 46th Annual Conference on Magnetics in Japan was held face-to-face at Shinshu University. In each session, presentations and Q&A unique to this society were held, and outside of the sessions, there was exchange beyond the fields. I was reminded of the significance of this society. Many members of this society participated in INTERMAG 2023, which was a great success in May. Through the exhibitions and other events, corporate members and researchers/engineers were able to interact directly. We hope that you will join us at this year’s the 47th Annual Conference on Magnetics in Japan (September 27-29, Osaka University). In particular, I will do my best to make this event an opportunity for students and young researchers as well as participants from industries, who have had few opportunities to interact with each other over the past three years. We will host the International Conference of Asian Union of Magnetics Societies (IcAUMS 2025) to be held in Okinawa on April 21-24, 2025. Many participants are expected from outside of Asia, so I would appreciate it if you could schedule this as well.

The cross-disciplinary position of this society has both strong points and difficulties, but members can find greater merit and joy in sharing and exchanging information through the annual conferences, topical symposiums, technical meetings, journals, and other activities. I would like to ask for your understanding and cooperation so that the MSJ can contribute to society as an organization that supports academic and industrial activities related to magnetism.
